Jeannette Bottle Works began operation in the late 1880s in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. In 1898 the company became Jeannette Glass Company. Jeannette's glass was “machine made” – automated – unlike the earlier Classic Carnival Glass which was pressed and finished by hand. It is this machine production which lends a characteristic uniformity to what is usually termed Late or Depression Era Carnival Glass. The firm changed its name to the Jeannette Corp. in 1970, and it only made tableware by 1982. The factory closed in 1983.
