Antique Charles Meigh & Son Jenny Lind Flow Blue Charger, England c. 1855

A substantial mid-19th-century English flow blue charger by Charles Meigh & Son of Staffordshire, England.

Dating to circa 1855, this 12.5-inch charger features the celebrated Jenny Lind pattern. The central transfer depicts elegantly dressed figures overlooking a dramatic mountain and castle landscape, surrounded by deep cobalt blue decoration.

The wide scalloped border gives this piece much of its character. Raised white scrollwork, architectural vignettes, floral and foliate details, and remnants of gold along the rim create a richly layered design.

The reverse bears the blue “Jenny Lind C M & S” mark for Charles Meigh & Son. A documented example with the same mark, design, and 12.5-inch diameter is dated circa 1855.

Jenny Lind was one of the most famous singers of the 19th century, known as the “Swedish Nightingale.” Charles Meigh & Son named this romantic Staffordshire pattern for her during the height of her international fame.
