An unusual vintage Bavarian porcelain music box combining brilliant blue porcelain with intricate aged metalwork.
The round porcelain box is finished in a saturated blue glaze and surrounded by ornate brass-tone mounts. At the center of the domed lid stands a ballerina rendered in dark patinated metal. Her layered tutu is formed from delicate openwork filigree, giving the figure exceptional texture and movement.
An elaborate pierced floral medallion anchors the ballerina to the lid, while richly detailed metal bands encircle the box. Open the lid to reveal a simple white porcelain interior. The underside houses the original wind-up musical mechanism.
The music mechanism is currently not working. We have left the piece in its found condition rather than attempting repair. Its sculptural design makes it a striking decorative object even without the musical function.
