A beautifully matched pair of antique portrait paintings by British artist John Hardwicke Lewis, featuring a distinguished gentleman and elegantly dressed woman presented in complementary oval compositions.
Painted as a set, the portraits share the same soft palette, delicate rendering and period character. One painting bears the artist’s signature, while the companion portrait is attributed to Lewis based on its matching technique, presentation and history as part of the original pair.
Both works are displayed in elaborate gilt frames with sculptural floral and scroll detailing. The frames retain their wonderfully aged finish, including areas of wear and patina that add depth rather than disguise their history. Together, they make a striking statement displayed side by side, stacked vertically or incorporated into a collected gallery wall.
A rare, character-filled pair for a study, library, bedroom or layered gallery wall—because some faces are simply too interesting to remain anonymous.
